Maasai Rising was conceptualized in July 2010, during Vesna’s first trip to Maasailand, and realized by December of the same year. January 2011 was Maasai Rising’s first mission, and during that trip, Maasai Rising saved one 14 year old from her father’s plan for her: to be the 3rd wife of a 40-something year old man.
Maasai Rising’s two main projects are the following:
1 Providing high school tuition fees and living expenses to 8th grade graduate girls so they are not forced into early marriage
2 Providing funds to support girls who individually choose to flee from their community in order to escape undergoing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)
